In collaboration with Brilliant and VML Technologies, Visual Impact Productions developed a bespoke end-to-end workflow to design, manage, and deliver captivating real-time content for one of the most ambitious architectural installations in recent history. The centrepiece of Astana Expo 2017 in Kazakhstan was an extraordinary 80-metre spherical building—officially the largest spherical structure in the world. Its scale and shape presented unprecedented challenges, both creatively and technically.

This architectural marvel incorporated multiple curved LED displays and an intricate lighting system, all of which had to be seamlessly synchronised to create a unified and immersive visual experience. Due to the complexity of the structure, standard content workflows were not sufficient. Visual Impact Productions engineered a custom content delivery pipeline specifically tailored for the sphere’s geometry and technical configuration. This involved advanced spatial mapping, pixel-accurate alignment, and coordination with various hardware and software systems to ensure flawless playback across the entire surface.

The result was a stunning visual showcase powered by over 125,000 pixels, all precisely mapped to the building’s unique curvature.
